Fish Tales from 2013

Friday 29 November 2013

Ahoy Dockside Loyals,

We truly hope you have been enjoying the holidays with the ones you love. As promised in last weeks posting, we are thrilled and excited to bring you the first "Dockside Crabfest" of the season this next week.

Local success from Capt. Fred Arnoldi of the Rosalena Marie has allowed us to keep our word and we are now taking "Crabfest" reservations for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday December 6th, 7th & 8th, with crabs available for lunch or dinner. These crawling crustaceans will be served cooked, chilled and cracked with all the usual Dockside fixings for $24.95. So mark your calendars and call us at 805-772-8100 for your reservation today!

As many of you know, last year we opened Dockside 3 smokehouse, oyster bar, and pub. The menu at Dockside 3 includes some traditional Dockside favorites as well as an expanded selection of shellfish, smoked seafood, and smoked meats.

We recently added a towable BBQ-smoker to the line-up and have been perfecting our mouth-watering smoked chicken, ribs, tri-tips, and turkeys! We hope to feature Dockside 3 selections at the Saturday Farmers Market here in Morro Bay, as well as at special events throughout the county staring after the first of the year.

In the meantime if you want to enjoy a unique Christmas treat, we will be featuring a special run of smoked Dockside turkeys for Christmas! We will be taking phone orders at 805-772-8130 through December 22nd with pickup at Dockside 3, December 23rd, and 24th. Smoked turkeys are a plump and juicy with just the right amount of sweetness and infused almond-wood smokiness. Dockside turkeys will be available at $3.00 a pound raw weight and will range in size from18 to 22 pounds.

Ahoy,

Winter has arrived here on the Central Coast led by changing weather conditions and varying fish selection. This is the time of year that we only send out fishing updates when there is something exciting on the horizon. This week the excitement is definitely here as the California Dungeness Crab season is underway!

Capt Arnoldi of the "Rosalena Marie", delivered our first shipment of these succulent sidewinders this week and their arrival couldn’t come at a better time. This week we will be featuring his local Dungeness Crabs in the market for $6.95 per pound live, or cooked, cracked and cleaned for $7.95 per pound.

If you would like them cooked, please remember that cooking, cracking, and cleaning takes approximately 40 minutes from start to finish and can be longer depending on how many others are in front of your order. If you would like to pre-order for pick-up please feel free to call ahead of time. Orders one day ahead of time will greatly help us have your order ready for pick up.

As you know, we strongly believe in eating locally as well as seasonally here at Dockside. Because of this, you will find Capt. Arnoldi’s Dungeness Crabs available in the Restaurant as the showcased ingredient for our traditional Cioppino throughout the holidays. As well, be prepared for Dockside’s First of the Season Crabfest the first weekend in December. We will let you know more about the details in our Thanksgiving email posting next week.

Our local Capt’s have been working hard when the weather permits and our supplies of Lingcod, Barracuda, White Sea Bass, Grenadier, Blackcod, and assorted Rockfish continues to be good. Much thanks to Capt’s Randy Kann, Jerry Patchen, Cu Van Truong, Bill Diller, Dan Helzer, Clay Shiflett, Joe Loiseau, Larry Dyck, as well as both Owen and Steve Hackleman. These Capt’s as well of many others continue to provide you access to our ocean’s bounty. Again, thanks to them for their hard work, and taking much risk in providing a natural resource that belongs to everyone!

Ahoy,

Wow! There are lots of good things going on this week here at Dockside. This week we have a great selection of local fish including Mako Shark, Bluefin Tuna, Opah, and Albacore. The only problem is that unless you want to attend the 2013 edition of the Morro Bay Harbor Festival it may be difficult to get in and get it. However if your heart is set on fresh fish or your planning on attending the Harbor Festival here are a few things to note that may make it easier for you!

Dockside will be having our own festival within a festival and we have done a few things to make it easier for you to come and see us. First of all... if you park at the Rock, you can either ride the festival shuttle or call Marc at 805-748-9995, or Capt. Mark at 805-441-1451 and we will come to you and pick you up in our own Dockside Shuttle. You will be delivered to our Dockside Fish Market Gate where entry to the festival is FREE if you’re going to eat at Dockside. Even if you don’t need a ride if you get to the Fish Market Gate and call either Marc, or Capt. Mark, we will let you in free if you plan on eating at Dockside. This gate will also be open after 5pm if you would like to come in for dinner.

This weekend you will find some great values and super entertainment throughout the festival weekend. Friday afternoon you can enjoy the sounds of "Random" at Dockside Too. There will be more great entertainment both Saturday and Sunday, with "The Lenny Blue Band" at Dockside Too all day Saturday, "Heart and Soul" at Dockside 3 from 5 to 9 on Saturday. Finally "Good Medicine" will play at Dockside Too for Sunday’s finale.

When it comes to ice cold beverages, beginning Saturday and going until we close on Sunday you can enjoy ALL BEERS bottled or draft for $3 as well as $4 glasses of Meridian Merlot and Chardonnay at all 3 Dockside locations. In addition, we are the Official Harbor Festival Home for "Figueroa Mountain Brewery" located in Buellton. This weekend you can enjoy a selection of their micro brews at Dockside Too’s Beer Garden including their famous "Hoppy Poppy," and "Davy Brown Ale."

Our food menu will include the usual Dockside offerings with the addition of a $4 appetizer menu featuring, clam strips, popcorn shrimp, calamari, Mexican shrimp cocktail, calm chowder mini bread bowls, and roasted garlic bread. You can also enjoy 4-ounce BBQ servings with your choice of Mako Shark, Opah, or Albacore. At Dockside 3 we will showcase smoked tacos as well as an amazing shrimp ceviche with chips. Ahoy,

Wow! Another week of sunny skies and calm seas here on the Central Coast. Amazing weather has combined with amazing fishing to form a match made in heaven for many of our local fishermen.

Capt. Losieau of the Fast Eddie, Capt. Shiflett of the Mr. T, Capt. Nailen of the Seeker, and Capt. Dunn of the Fog Dog, continue to bring us strong landings of California Halibut caught just minutes north of Morro Rock. Due to their consistent success, we will feature fillets from these fabulous flounder-like flat fish in the Market for $15.95 per pound throughout the weekend. Whole Halibut will also be available for $6.95 per pound if you prefer.

Further North, Albacore fishing was outstanding again this week for Capt. Cunningham of the Tommy Lynn II. His offshore trip brought us good supplies of these tasty tuna. Albacore will be available this weekend whole for $3.95 per pound, or as fillets for $9.95 per pound. If you are looking to put some Albacore in a can this year, now is the time to capitalize on this great value.

Once again this weekend starting Friday the 20th and continuing through Sunday the 22nd, Albacore fillets for $9.95 per pound or whole fish for $3.95 per pound, or Halibut fillets for $15.95 per pound or whole fish for $6.95 per pound…while supplies last. Remember as always, if you purchase a whole fish we will cut it at no additional charge.

We hope to see you here!

Ahoy,

Fishing this week has been outstanding for many of our local captains and the variety here at Dockside definitely reflects it. Local favorites like White Seabass and California Halibut are in full swing, while pelagic species such as Opah,

White Seabass fishing has finally turned on this week on with landings from Capt. Conners of the Silver Bullet, Capt. VanWagner of the Pure Adrenaline II, and Capt. Nailen of the Seeker. These captains have been looking all summer long for these allusive fish and finally located a few near Gaviota. Their long awaited success allows us to offer these favorites in the Market this week as fillets for $14.95 per pound, or whole for $6.95 per pound.

Capt Shiflett of the Mr. T. continues to be the man to chase when it comes to local California Halibut. His steady success allows us to once again feature his catch this week in the Market as fillets for $15.95 per pound or whole for $6.95 per pound. Local Halibut will also be featured as lunch or dinner specials in the Restaurant, Market, and Smokehouse throughout the week.

And finally… the first pelagic fish of the year have arrived this week to Dockside! Capt.’s Roff and Schoditsch of the Dianne Susan delivered their first trip of the season, landing Opah, Louvar, Mako Shark, Pomfret and Albacore. The appearance of these offshore fish is a true sign that fall is underway and suggest that there will be more to follow. Capt. Roff’s fish will be available in the Market this weekend while supplies last. Shhhhhh. We did say Louvar!

Other local favorites available this week include Ablacore, Blackcod, Lingcod, and Grenadier to name a few!

We hope to see you here!

Thursday 05 September 2013

Ahoy,

What an amazing week it has been here on the Central Coast. Warm weather, calm seas and sunny skies for days on end has allowed our local fleet to enjoy some good fishing as well as catching. California Halibut has been the fish to talk about here at Dockside with some outstanding landings from Captains Losieau of the FAST EDDIE, Conners of the SILVER BULLET, Nailen of the SEEKER, Shiflett of the MR. T, Dunn of the FOG DOG, Bigham of the BIG TIME, Campopiano, of the ISLAND HOPPER, and Mowry, of the NO NAME.

The success of these local fishermen allows us to feature California Halibut this weekend in the Market at $15.95 per pound for fillets. For those of you who would rather have us do the cooking, Halibut will be featured as a variety of mouth-watering specials in the Market, Restaurant, and Smokehouse throughout the weekend.

In addition to Halibut, Brett Cunningham of the TOMMY LYNN II has been kind enough to truck some of his albacore down from Ft. Bragg. The local Albacore production has been limited at best and we are grateful for Brett’s effort in replenishing our supplies, allowing them to also be featured this weekend. Whole Albacore will be available for $4.50 per pound or $9.95 per pound for loins. Remember our Albacore are much different than most others that may be available to you. The fishermen that elect to deliver their Albacore to us, spike, bleed, gut and gill their fish at sea. This method assures a superior fish when iced immediately and we believe it is the only way an Albacore caught for the fresh market should be handled.

Both Specials; California Halibut fillets for $15.95 and Albacore whole fish for $4.50 or loins for $9.95 will start Friday September 6th and continue through Sunday September 8th, while supplies last. Two amazing fresh fish specials this week here at Dockside are sure to please just about any pallet.

We hope to see you here!

Ahoy,

Well… it’s been a few weeks since our last “fish list” update. With King Salmon season drying up locally, there hasn’t been much to get excited about! This week things have changed and we are definitely excited here at Dockside. Albacore is now in the sights of many of our local captains. Capt Nailen of “The Seeker,” Capt. Conners of the “Silver Bullet” and Capt Wilcox of the “Ellie G.” all traveled north and brought us back the first Albacore of the year. These tasty and tantalizing tuna will be available in the Market whole for 4.95 per pound or as loins for 10.95 per pound throughout the week. Albacore are usually the first pelagic fish that we begin to see this time of year, leading us into a new season and local variety.

California Halibut fishing has also given us something to be excited about this week. With very little local Halibut production this summer, we had thought that it was just an off year. This week things dramatically changed and our local small boat fleet took advantage of the bite. With the fleet lead by Capt. Shiflett of the “Mr.T,” landings of local California Halibut were as strong as we have ever seen for the last couple of days. This super mild and meaty fish will be featured in the Market for 15.95 per pound for fillets throughout the weekend. In addition, Chef Joel will be featuring local Halibut throughout our standard menu as well as in a variety of daily specials throughout the week.

Other favorites this week include local Grenadier from Capt. Le of the “Golden Eagle,” Blackcod from Capt. Hackleman of the “Provision,” and Lingcod from Capt. Patchen of the “Kaps.”

We hope to see you here!

Thursday 18 July 2013

Ahoy,

King Salmon season reopened Monday and many of our local fishermen have capitalized on another shot at these amazing fish. Capt. Riley of the “Lady Maxine,” Capt. Dunn of the “Fog Dog,” Capt. Nailen of “The Seeker,” Capt. Conners of the “Silver Bullet,” and Capt. Nelson of the “Dottie K,” all had landings this week enabling us to once again feature fresh local troll-caught California King Salmon here at Dockside. This week in our Market, fillets will be available for $21.95 per pound while whole fish will be offered at $10.95 per pound. In our Restaurant local King Salmon continues to be used anywhere you see Salmon on our menu as well as in a variety of specials masterfully prepared by head Chef Joel Lopez. Also don’t forget to check out our mouth watering apple wood smoked local King Salmon at Dockside 3 smokehouse…the building that is shaped like a boat.

Halibut fishing this week also continues to remain strong with landings from Capt. McGill of the “4 Baja,” and Capt. Bigham of the “Big Time.” Local California Halibut fillets will be available this week for $18.95 per pound in the Market while supplies last. Local California Halibut will also be offered in our Restaurant throughout our standard menu as well as in a few of our daily specials.

Other fishing this week has been good with strong landings of Grenadier from Capt. Truong of the “Golden Eagle,” scattered landings of Lingcod from Capt. Patchen of the “Kaps,” and a handful of Vermilion Rockfish from Capt. Bengston of the “Wasn’t Me.” The miscellaneous fish from these small boat captains help keep our fish case full and give us the variety of local fish that make Dockside what it is.

On another note… we hope that you get the chance to join us this Sunday, July 21st for the 4th annual “Fast Eddie’s Memorial Jam,” here at our patio. This amazing Dockside fundraiser will feature a plethora of the areas finest musical talent, beer garden and festive environment that is a must for any music lover. 100% of the proceeds from the beer and wine garden as well as musicians tips go directly to Woods Humane Society in the name of longtime fishing legend Eddie Ewing and his contribution to our local fishing community.

We hope to see you here!

Friday 12 July 2013

Ahoy,

Well, once again we apologize for being tardy with this week’s “Fish List” posting. The Captain as well as all of the crew here at Dockside have been trying to catch up from the insane 4th of July weekend this past week. In addition with Salmon season getting ready to re-open on Monday, Capt Mark has been busy doing some needed maintenance and putting new equipment on the Bonnie Marietta. As many of you know, the Bonnie Marietta is used for a variety of vessel support services and ocean research in addition to her normal fishing duties.

After towing several Mexican Pangas off local beaches the last few months, and in preparation for some up coming work Capt. Mark realized that a towing bit has become a necessity. Although he has been successful towing with a bridle, a single screw vessel such as the Bonnie Marietta has limited maneuverability when towing from behind her rudder. Placing a towing point ahead of the rudder will increase the Bonnie Marietta’s ability to maneuver while in tow making it a welcome addition.

In this weeks fishing news… California Halibut have been making a much awaited appearance in the water offshore Cayucos. Many local Captains have found success and we are pleased to have their landings here at Dockside. Much thanks to Capt. Conners, of the Silver Bullet, Capt. Bigham, of the Big Time, Capt. Nailen of The Seeker, Capt. Loiseau of the Flat Fish, Capt. Bengtson of the Wasn’t Me, Capt. Dunn of the Fog Dog, Capt. Shiflett of the Mr. T. and Capt. Van Wagner of the Pure Adrenaline.

These wonderful flat fish are highly prized with fillets usually costing $18.95 per pound here at Dockside. However, we always like to extend good value to all our dedicated customers when good fishing abounds.

With that said, this weekend… Saturday, July 13th and Sunday, July 14th we would like you all to enjoy fresh, local California Halibut fillets for $16.95 per pound… while supplies last!

Much thanks as always!

Thursday 05 July 2013

Ahoy,

Happy 4th of July to all! We hope that you have had the chance to spend a little time with family and friends and enjoy this wonderful holiday weekend.

We apologize for getting out this weeks posting a day late but with so many celebrating our independence and attempting to escape the hot inland temperatures, we have been spread a little thin here at Dockside.

We are so happy that so many of our “Fish List,” folks jumped at the opportunity this past week to enjoy a whole local King Salmon, at $9.95 per pound. Those who did took advantage of the excellent return netting a shade over $14.00 per pound for fillets and around $13.00 per pounds for steaks. Either way, an overall great value no matter how you slice it!

Currently we are on a 15-day mid-season Salmon closure that started Sunday June 30th and will end on July 15th. With that in mind, we stocked up on our supplies of Salmon from Capt. Mark, as well as a number of other local fishermen. This has allowed us to once again offer these wonderful local King Salmon this weekend whole for $9.95 per pound. As always, we will fillet or steak them free of charge, and put them on ice for the journey to your home. So… while supplies last… we will be offering whole local King Salmon today Friday July 5th and continuing though Sunday, July 7th for $9.95 per pound. Fish Market hours are 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and we can be reached at 805-772-8120.

A few other nice additions in the case this weekend include White Seabass from Santa Barbra, and Yellowtail from Mexico, as well as a variety of many other local favorites.

Thursday 27 June 2013

Ahoy,

Wow! King Salmon fishing has been outstanding this past week with strong landings from our local fleet including our very own Capt. Mark of the “Bonnie Marietta.” The Captain and other fishermen had the most success early in the week within eyesight of Morro Rock and were able to sleep in their own warm beds at night. Later in the week the majority of fish were caught closer to Port San Luis causing many Captains to spend a few nights away from home. Either way our fishermen have been blessed with strong landings and local success allowing us to offer fresh local troll-caught King Salmon this week for the incredible price of $19.95 per pound for fillets or $9.95 per pound for whole fish! Yes that’s right… $19.95 per pound for fillets or $9.95 per pound for whole fish!

The average size this week is nearly 16 pounds with many reaching the 20-pound mark. The return on whole Salmon is around 70%. This means that for a 10-pound Salmon, you will have approximately 7 pounds of fillet, with 3 pounds of trim. When you do the math, this results in a cost of just over $14 dollars per pound for fillets if you purchase a whole fish. Remember, as always, if you purchase a whole fish, we will cut it for you for no additional charge.

We hope that you are able to take advantage of this great value while these amazing fish are so close to home!

We'll catch up with you again next week.

Thursday 20 June 2013

Ahoy,

Well it looks like it has happened. We blinked and summer caught us by surprise! The wind has backed off a bit and the weather has warmed up making for some beautiful afternoons down here at waters edge. Fishing this week has also warmed up and landings have been on the upswing.

Rockfish fishing was good this week with a variety of fish landed by Capt. Mintz of the “D.J.” His trip brought us strong supplies of one of our favorites, Bank Rockfish, along with Blackgill Rockfish, and Splitnose Rockfish. All three Rockfish will be available as fillets for $8.95 per pound this week in the Market. Bank Rockfish will also be featured as “Fish of the Day,” in the Restaurant.

One of our local heroes, Capt. Evans of the “Lucy L,” also had landings earlier in the week with of another favorite, “Sand Sole.” This extremely delicate and mild fish will be available in the Market for $9.95 per pound while supplies last.

Capt. Fosmark of the “Seeadler” pulled his crab pots and delivered the last Dungeness crab of the season to us here at Dockside. These succulent sidewinders will be available for $8.95 per pound and will be the last we see until November.

In other fishing news, the local King Salmon season is set re-open tomorrow and we are hoping that some will swim upstream to us here at Dockside. Capt. Mark and the “Bonnie Marietta,” will once again be first in line in hopes of adding to our dwindling supply. If all goes well we will continue to offer fresh local troll-caught King Salmon for $21.95 per pound for fillets, or $10.95 per pound whole.

Ahoy Mates,

Here we go with this weeks fishing "Scuttlebutt".... The wind finally backed off enough to allow the fishermen to get back out to sea and do what they do best "catching"! As a result we are delighted to have the following amazing fish available at the Fish-Market, and will also be featured as specials in the Restaurant... while supplies last.

King Salmon caught by:
Capt. Nungaray of the "Michael Too"
Capt. Kennedy of the "Twilight Lady"
Capt. Sylvester of the "Trudy S"
and of course our personal favorite ....
Capt. Mark of the "Bonnie Marietta"!

Sand Sole & Starry Flounder caught by Capt. Evans of the "Lucy L"
Grenadier from Capt. Truong of the "Golden Eagle",
Black Cod from Capt. Hackleman of the "Provision"

Salmon wasn't the only thing that Capt. Mark caught this week... Monday afternoon he got a call from "Vessel Assist" out of Ventura requesting his help to recover a Panga boat off the coast. FYI, back in March Capt. Mark also assisted them towing a Panga boat from Gamboa Pt. to Morro Bay, you may have even read the news about that incident. Ironically this one was also off of Gamboa Pt. Capt Mark said the Panga boat was approx 35 feet long (that's almost as big as the Bonnie Marietta!) with twin Yamaha 350 horse power outboard engines, and that it was a very slow ....9 hour tow back to Morro Bay!

Did you know....
The Panga is a type of modest-sized, open, outboard-powered, fishing boat common throughout much of the developing world, including Central America, the Caribbean, parts of Africa, the Middle East, and much of Asia. The original Panga design was developed by Yamaha as part of a World Bank project circa 1970. Panga's are commonly operated directly off of beaches. The name comes from the upswept bow of the boat which resembles the machete or knife called a Panga. In addition to being used by fishermen,
are also popular with Somali PIRATES.
So now you know....

Speaking of PIRATES...
Congratulations to the Morro Bay High School graduating class of 2013 today. Good luck and best wishes for a successful and prosperous future to you all!

Thursday 30 May 2013

Ahoy,

Not much has changed this week in the local fishing news. Although the wind has subsided a bit onshore, conditions at sea continue to create struggles for local fishermen. Salmon fishing has been scratchy at best with daily scores usually between 3 and 4 fish per day. Rockfish fishing has also been slim and landings of other fish such as Halibut or White Seabass have been non-existent.

Further north near Halfmoon Bay, Salmon fishing popped this last week with some fairly good scores for a few days. The downside was that nearly all of those fish were swallowed up by the demand in northern California with little reaching us here on the Central Coast. Although local supplies have been limited this week, the hard-nosed efforts of a few fishermen such as Capts. John and Jeff French of the “Langosta,” Capt. Cullen of the “Dorado,” and Capt. Lohman of the “White Angel,” have kept local King Salmon on the menu here at Dockside. That may change soon and unless we see more landings our supplies will soon be out. In addition, the season is set to close in a few days and will re-open later in the month.

With that said, we will continue to feature fresh local California King Salmon fillets in the Market for $21.95 per pound while supplies last. Head chef Joel Lopez will also continue to showcase this magnificent fish in a variety of specials for both lunch and dinner until it is gone.

Also, this Saturday June 1st another fabulous Mermaid and Pirate parade is scheduled for all those little ones who just can’t wait for Halloween to dress up. The parade is open to all children and their parents who wish to dress up as their favorite salty sea character. The event begins at 10:30 at Morro Rock and marches down the Boardwalk ending at Dockside Too. Directly after, Dockside will provide free Seadogs, Corndogs, Bread Bowls, French Fries and Beverages to those who participate.

We hope to see you there!

Thursday 23 May 2013

Ahoy,

Not much happening in the fishing world this week due to the blistery windy conditions that have plagued the central coast. The good news is that Capt. Mark of the Bonnie Marietta put on his heavy coat and slickers, and rode out the wind this week landing enough King Salmon to satisfy the demand here at Dockside. Did you know that King Salmon are one of the few local fish species that can be caught under extremely windy conditions? The reason is that fishermen in search of King Salmon are constantly moving forward or “trolling.” By trolling, fishermen are able to steer their boats in the direction that they wish to travel and continuously compensate for any wind drift, fishing as they move. Many other fishing methods require fishermen to pinpoint specific areas and windy conditions make it difficult to keep their boats in the proper position to catch fish.

The shear determination of Capt. Mark enables us to continue to have fresh local King Salmon at all 3 of our Dockside locations this week. In the Market, the Captains King Salmon fillets are available for $21.95 per pound or whole fish for $10.95 per pound. In the Restaurant, Chef Joel will be featuring King Salmon during both lunch and dinner in a variety of daily specials as well as throughout our standard menu. Finally at Dockside 3, Chef Edgar will add his masterful touch to those scrumptious collars and bellies that will come fresh out of the Apple wood smoker. We are truly fortunate to have such an amazing fish caught by such an enduring fisherman and prepared by such skillful chefs!

Last Sundays BBQ Oyster feast and fundraiser for the 4th of July was a huge success! With your help and support, Dockside raised over $6000 that was donated directly to the fireworks show here in Morro Bay. Everyone who came out and supported the cause proved how lucky we are to live in this magnificent place!

Ahoy,

King Salmon continues to be the fish of choice this week for many of our local fishermen including Capt. Mark of the “Bonnie Marietta.” After three steady days of fishing, Capt. Mark was able to replenish our supplies of local hook-and-line caught King Salmon. This week fillets from the Captain’s fish will be available for $21.95 per pound, or $10.95 per pound if you purchase a whole fish. In addition, in-house Apple wood smoked King Salmon bellies and collars will be available in the Market. For those of you who like smoked fish, the sweet, moist and flavorful bellies and collars are to die for!

Did you know… in January of this year, Dockside opened a third location in addition to our Restaurant and Fish Market? That’s right, Dockside 3…Smokehouse, Oyster Bar & Pub. You can easily identify our newest addition because it is shaped like a big boat. At Dockside 3 we feature a variety of smoked seafood, chicken and beef. We also cater to those shellfish lovers who are looking for a more expansive selection of oysters, clams, and mussels. Finally if that’s not enough, we carry a variety of local wines, and showcase over 50 handcrafted beers with 16 fresh from the tap. If you see a smoked item at any of our locations, including those scrumptious bellies and collars we are featuring this week in the Market, it came fresh from the smoker at Dockside 3.

In other fishing news, Lingcod fishing remains steady with assorted landings from Capt. Shifflett of the “Mr. T,” Capt. Patchen of the “Kaps,” and Capt. Bigham of the “Big Time.” Lingcod will be available in the Market this week for $10.95 per pound while supplies last.

Finally this Sunday, May 19th we are proud to be throwing the 4th annual BBQ Oyster Feast and fireworks fundraiser on the patio at Dockside Too. Dockside donates 100% of the proceeds to the firework show in Morro Bay. Tickets are $20 each and include half a dozen BBQ oysters, a pitcher of beer and all day live music featuring Lenny Blue and Friends. This year the oysters are HUGE and the beer is ice cold so bring your appetite and some friends and hurry on down! The event starts at 1pm and goes till dark-30. We hope to see you here and share in this exciting celebration for a great cause!

Ahoy,

Salmon fishing this week had dropped off considerably from the first few days of the season. Scores of 2’s and 3’s have been leaving local fishermen scratching their heads asking where did they all go? Further north landings have been slightly better, but definitely nothing to write home about. The good news is that Capt. Mark on board the “Bonnie Marietta,” Capt. Nungaray on the “Michael Too,” and Capt. Nailen on “The Seeker,” all continue to land plenty of magnificent King Salmon for us here at Dockside. All three captains agree that the fish are still around and will be ready when they decide to bite again.

The combined efforts of these captains allow us to continue to feature fresh local King Salmon fillets in our Market for $21.95 per pound, or as whole fish for $10.95 per pound. Fresh local King Salmon will also be available this week in our Restaurant throughout the standard menu as well as featured as a variety of tasty daily specials.

Although slightly overshadowed by the Salmon opener, May 1st was also the re-opening of near-shore Rockfish and Lingcod seasons. Rockfish fishing has been off to a slow start, but Lingcod fishing has been a bit better. Landings from Capt. Patchen of the “Kaps,” and Capt. Bigham of the “Big Time,” have made Lingcod available in the Market for $10.95 per pound.

Good ol’ Travis Evans of the “Lucy L,” is still at it and his landings of Starry Flounder and Sand Sole add to our selection of fresh local favorites. Both of these delicate flatfish will be available in the Market as fillets for $9.95 per pound.

Finally, Capt Truong of the “Golden Eagle,” had a strong trip this week fishing Grenadier. This moist, mild and flaky favorite will be available in the Market for $7.95 per pound throughout the weekend. Grenadier will also be featured in the Restaurant as “Fish of the Day” as the weekend approaches.

Ahoy Mates!

May is finally here and we are ready to steam forward with our weekly fishing updates! For those of you who are new to our "Fish-List" postings, welcome aboard and for those of you who have been with us, welcome back! We will do our best to post the weeks fishing news every Thursday until the end of September. If you know someone who would like to be added to our “Fish-List,” please email us or fill out our guest book located in the Restaurant, and we will add them to the fun. OK so with that said, get ready to strap on your rubber boots, squint your eyes to the brisk and salty sea air as we begin another season of excitement!

May 1st brought with it the opening of the California King Salmon season along with an eager fleet of commercial boats jockeying for position at the break of dawn. Capt. Mark on board the “Bonnie Marietta,” was first in line for the opportunity to land a few of the silver sided beauties that he had been dreaming about over the past few months. As dawn crested and first light broke the answer to his sleepless nights had arrived…the first “pumper,” of the season!

Did you know that when Salmon fishing, the term “pumper,” is used to describe a freshly hooked King Salmon? When the fish gets hooked they begin to fight, tugging on the line and “pumping,” the indicator spring located high up on the boats fixed poles. This first pumper of the season, soon lead to another and another and finally resulted in a pretty good opening day for Capt. Mark. In addition to Capt. Mark’s landing, Dockside received fish from Capt. Nailen of “The Seeker,” and Capt. Nungaray of the “Michael Too.”

The success of the these fishermen allow us to feature the first of the season King Salmon in the Fish Market for $21.95 per pound or as whole fish for $10.95 per pound. As always, if you purchase a whole fish we will be happy to cut it for you at no additional cost. Fresh local King Salmon will also be available in the Restaurant throughout our standard menu as well as featured in a variety of specials from our head Chef Joel Lopez.

The weather is beautiful and the fish are fresh, so come on by and join us in celebrating the beginning of the Salmon Season!

The balance of the year it is an occasional posting when something special may be happening………such is the case with this posting!

After a couple of months of working on the building, we are ready to open the doors to “Dockside 3” ! It is our version of a smokehouse, oyster bar, and pub. Our offerings will include freshly smoked Salmon, Albacore ,Swordfish, Oysters and Scallops ala carte as well as in wraps, salads, and tacos.
